Shauna Shipman

mlm mogul who is definitely not a cult leader

Shauna Shipman is it all -- a business tycoon (her mushroom teas and coffees have been espoused by the likes of Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan and Mischa Barton), a best-selling author (her memoir about her experience in the troubled teen wilderness camp industry was top of the NYT's bestseller list for 12 weeks), a doting momfluencer (baby Jack's photos sold to People for half a million dollars) and, best of all, willing to come stay at Saltburnt and sell her products and make business connections.

And if you see her in the chapel at 3am with her two business associates, mind your business.

    BACKSTORY:

Shauna got pregnant at the end of senior year. She was a loner, an introvert from a well-off family with a free ride to Brown in front of her and aspirations of business school in her future. Her parents decided the best solution was to send her to a troubled teen wilderness camp in the Canadian mountains for a couple months, then have her quietly have the baby and give him up for adoption. But something went wrong -- a broken radio, a ruined map, the divine intervention of something out there in the trees. A 30-day excursion stretched longer, longer, with no word, no sign of the group of girls or the counselors.

And then, months later -- Shauna Shipman emerged from the woods healthy and calm, glowing, her son on one hip and the survivors behind her. She was placidly serene when interviewed, claiming that the girls had lost their way and stumbled across some wild mushrooms that gave them immense strength and enabled them to survive. With her family's business connections -- and the support of two of her fellow campers -- Shauna soon made the production and processing of these mushrooms into a very profitable multi-level marketing campaign, while also maintaining a presence as a "crunchy" mom, who continues to raise little Jack in a communal environment. After all, those who sell (and use) enough of her product rise up the ranks quickly, and many of them choose to move in with Shauna and the rest of her cult commune.

And the closer they get to the ethereal, near-mythic head of the company, the more they understand Shauna's unique power, her influence, her draw. And the harder and harder it gets to leave.

    RUMORS:

    • There are multiple lawsuits claiming Shauna's products have led to serious illness or death, but they've all been dropped before going to court.

    • Still breastfeeds her son -- some say the milk is also added to her products, which is part of what makes them so addictive.

    • Keeps a dedicated dream journal for herself, Jackie and Melissa. Has predicted several sports events, celebrity break-ups and movie twists this way.

    • One of her PA's wore heavy black boots to a press event. Shauna publicly fired her, saying "Natalie, this is unacceptable behavior for a representative of my enterprise". The girl's name was Stacy.

    • Posted a photo of herself, Jackie and Melissa on Valentine's Day with no caption. Claimed she forgot what day it was.

    IMPORTANT CONNECTIONS:

Jackie: CMO, co-owner in stock, high priestess
Melissa: COO, co-owner in stock, high priestess
      Natalie: apostate

    OTHER NOTES:

    • Has a very unique tattoo on her upper arm, as do the rest of her inner circle.

    • Jack's full name is Jackson Melrose Shipman. He was born December 31st, 2006, making him about 18 months old when they visit Saltburnt.
